Jelly Bean for Advent Vega/PoV now Alpha 2

Scanno has kept his promise, today he releases the JellyBean for Advent Vega / PoV Mobii Tegra and other P10AN01 clones, with Alpha 2 status. About a week ago, scanno has release VegaBean Alpha 1 for preview. This newly developed Jelly Bean ROM has been a collaboration between EJTagle, Brucelee666 and scanno himself. EJTagle do all the kernel and driver work, the post did not mention what part Brucelee666 take, but I guess he had helped EJTagle with the driver work. Scanno is the cheft who cook the ROM :).
Scanno did not reveal very much information to cover, may be he’ll do it soon. He did mention that almost everything is working, especially the sound. For those who has problem with bad NAND block, scanno has freed 10% space on /system for a better chance for the ROM to be written safely on your NAND memory.

Skype user?
Yes, I think scanno want to give a good news for the member using skype. Skype is now working, but he only test it against the skype test call.

He only mention one problem, the portrait mode, without any further information about the problem. With this information, I guess application like Instagram or Path which use portrait interface mostly, will also have a problem. But, this is not yet confirmed by hand test.

Jelly Bean Come to Vega, PoV, OnePad

A few days already, vegacream ROM thread at tabletroms was hijacked by VegaBean ROM. One or two member there becomes confused. There is some member who suggested that Scanno, the man who developed VegaCream ROM, should immediately create a new thread, which is intended for VegaBean discussion.

Responding to complaints from the forum members, scanno even wrote in one of his post: " The version i posted was just a little bit as a teaser to let people see what potential JellyBean has. As soon as sound is working, i will create a new thread.".

Will Jelly Bean bring potential for something more, particularly on this Advent Vega and Bros tablet? Answer to this question may be obtained by trying yourself the Alpha ROM provided for download by mr. scanno. The potential you found, might not be something you need, as a daily user. Maybe it’s just a potential, only scanno could understand. But, sadly, voluntary made ROM like this would not give you the opportunity to post a request to the dev. I deeply hope, that Jelly Bean port will just make our tablet (Advent Vega, PoV Mobii, ViewSonic, Zyrex OnePad) capable to show its real potential that we can understand as fanatics, enthusiast.

Do we share this hope? But reviewing the history of operating system development, the graphics for hardware requirement was an ascending trend.  Jelly Bean, might has promised us smoother, faster, and more reliable system performance, with the price of a more sophisticated hardware. Also, from reviewing history, this is a marketing strategy. Google will definitely do it. Jelly Bean would require a faster processor, more memory, camera and other more refined accessories. And that means, buy new equipment to support it. Scanno, will make Jelly Bean come to our shuttle/tablet that has been aged, but wouldn’t it become too heavy for this device specification.

In my opinion, it will be much better if scanno, continuing his work on his masterpiece "VegaCream", until all bugs and problems become minimal, and finally a full released version. Scanno should listen to the forum members who have loyally test the ROM in every development phase. VegaCream ROM very feasible to develop into the best ROM for our tablets. Best regard!

JellyBean for Advent Vega, VegaBean

I do not know for sure, but it seems like scanno has abandoned VegaCream project, and go for his new one, VegaBean.

JellyBean for Vega, PoV, OnePad -- to soon
Moving to jellybean is really cool, but this tablet has limited resources, can it catch JellyBean requirement. VegaBean Alpha has been released by scanno at tabletroms or modaco, and he clearly state that the ROM left only 3MB on /system. While other major devices, they still have to wait for JellyBean update. Application developer will still developing for ICS, I think for a longer time forward. JellyBean has used only by Nexus 7 right now.

More weighted to VegaCream
While it is always fun to have new things in the tablet, for me, it more like stability. I really hope that scanno would wanted to perfect his VegaCream, until at least, all device in our vega is functional. But that is up to his preference, I can only hope. If vega users read this post, please, give your voice in the forum, so someone, will continue scanno progress on VegaCream. It so close to perfection, we need someone like areo that fight for Vegacomb until it become HoneyIce.

Boot Your VegaCream in USB Host Mode

Why in the first place we want to boot vegacream to USB host mode?
There are a number of reason, people want this but of course the right answer is, because they want to connect a peripheral to their tablet usb port. In VegaCream, whether it is on Advent Vega, POV Mobii, or Zyrex OnePad, the default USB mode is peripheral. If you plug a mouse in to the USB port, the mouse wont be detected, but if you connect your tablet to PC, the computer will recognize it as a peripheral.

I found this from tablet ROM, a post by icpart, stating that changing value of /sys/usbbus/host_mode from 0 to 1 will make the tablet using USB host mode. This is achievable by first gaining super user access or root in a terminal. Then add a line in /etc/vega_postboot.sh to change this value. The default value is of course 0.
Step-by-step:
1. Power on your tablet running VegaCream
2. Open a terminal window
3.Obtain super user privilege by typing "su" [enter]
4. type: echo "echo 1 > /sys/usbbus/host_mode" >> /etc/vega_postboot.sh
5. close the terminal window
6. done

Next time you boot, VegaCream will be in USB host mode.

My VegaCream of Dream

Last night, while testing the newly flashed Zyrex OnePad SP1113G, now using the latest vegacream RC2, I fall asleep. I had a dream, a beautiful dream. I knew that because, I remembered my feeling, its a happy feeling. I looked at my OnePad running VegaCream. It is no more a release candidate, it's a stable version of vegacream with everything working.

The display dpi at 160. It is now capable playing 720p movie without hick up :), smooth on the tablet. HDMI is brilliantly play the video to wider screen.

The accelerometer has been fixed, I can now use google sky, playing NFS Hot Pursuit fast without lagging. Foursquare, Path, and Instagram is now fully functional because camera, gps, and bluetooth and wifi are now working flawless.

Voice recording, and command or searching is working. Easily switch betwen host and peripheral mode of USB by a combination of hardware button. The shuttle tools is very smart.

The calling function is the only thing left as it is, but it is ok, the mms application now works, people application work. Youtube work, news site rendered perfectly, and playing video nicely. No more browser and/or flash player issue. OnePad is a fully working and capable tablet now, then I woke up :)

Thats my dream and I hope scanno and ejtagle and brucelee and everybody at tabletroms, modaco, and xda can make it true.

Please, support scanno and his fellow dev to finish the VegaCream out of its RC status, before they move to JellyBean. The ROM dev was never a completed task before, and it has let us down, the users, the testers, the supporters :(

VegaCream RC2 Using New Nvidia Kernel rel-15r7

I have not had time to test the Release Candidate 1, but scanno has released another new update for vegacream. In his announcement in tabletroms.com, Scanno say that there is nothing new in this update, except that the kernel used is the latest release from NVidia rel-15r7. That's all the information come with his post, along with two downloads link.
However, some of the tester in the forum has tested the new update and respond quite well. Most of them said, there is an increased stability, although this update, not as fast as the previous updates. Apparently, scanno at this time, rather lay aside the speed matter and try to focus on the stability of the system.
This can be judged from the few releases that he has made lately. This update was becoming more stable and reliable. And of course we loved it :)

Black Screen When Installing VegaCream

I try to install vegacream, using modded stock v2 as base. But, after updating with CWM zip, and reboot, the screen just give me back light. Nothing else happen next, even when I let it like that for 30 menit, it stay just like that.

Then, I reflash my tablet using VegaICS beta. After, factory reset, clearing dalvik cache, then install the zip update, the tablet won't give me nothing but backlight of the screen.

I then download the nvflash format of VegaCream beta 2.1. I flash my tablet then it boot fine. My tablet is working now, I have no idea why, I only get back light when installing using CWM update.

I recall that I have made some success a few month ago with the CWM update when I install vegacream 2.1 for the first time, but I can not remember what ROM i use for its base. Whether the nvflash of Vegacream beta 2, VegaICS, or moddedsctock. It work that time, vegacream beta 2.1 was installed and run nicely. But now I got no luck with the CWM zip.

If you have problem with the CWM update, you could always download the nvflash version of vegacream.

VegaCream Finally a Release Candidate!

Hello people, scanno brings you the release candidate for his Custom ICS ROM, VegaCream. The version of vegacream just released today. Scanno, has run it for 18 hours without single lockup or reboots. But, thats something for us -- vega, POV, viewsonic users -- to prove on our own tablet.

Just a note that if you decide to use the nvflash version, there will be a false positive from McAfee saying that the program being Malicious. You can ignore that, but remember, thats your own risk.

I am downloading the nvflash version right now, and there will be an update soon. Go to the forum people, or just follow the link below.

VegaCream Beta 4 Update is Online

Another good news for the shuttle fans, Advent Vega cs, new release of vegacream is out. Yes, we have something new to try :)

A lot of positive response, especially after some patch released by scanno. It using new kernel 3.1. Sleep and wifi problem has been solved. For me, still using VegaCream beta 2.1, stable enough for my daily activity with the tablet. Some user give a shoot for beta 3 and fallback to 2.1. And Beta 4.1 still marked as experimental. So........

I am waiting for Release Candidate.

But, if someone curious enough to test and help the development, if you have time, you can grab the Beta 4.1 right at the forum. It released as CWM update or nvflash format. Happy debugging :)
